Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Oxford needle so special and TSW kits unique?
The Oxford Needle is the premier punch needle available worldwide. It is handcrafted from sustainably sourced maple wood and stainless steel and comes with a lifetime guarantee. Our punch needle kits are designed in Australia and each kit is assembled by hand, locally in Melbourne. We favour small production and love the personal contact we have with our customers.
I am new to punch needle, which kit do you recommend for beginners?
All our punch needle kits are suitable for beginners so just select which design takes your fancy! We also include printed, full size, coloured patterns in our kits and a 12-page beginner punch needle booklet with every needle purchase.
I’m keen to buy the Oxford #10 needle but should I buy the Regular or Fine? What’s the difference?
The terms ‘Regular’ and ‘Fine’ refer to the width of the needle shaft. The ‘Regular’ works best with chunkier yarns (10ply+), heavy rug yarn (16ply) and fabric strips, whereas the ‘Fine’ works well with standard wools used for knitting (8ply-12ply). For tips in choosing the right needle, check out our blog post What’s the difference between Oxford #10 Regular and Fine
I have my own punch needle design ideas and loads of wool, can I just purchase the needle?
Yes we sell both the Oxford #10 (Fine and Regular) and the Lavor Adjustable needles separately and these come with our beginner instruction booklet. If you are purchasing the Oxford needle, you might want to consider the Beginners’ Basic Bundle which has the needle, monks cloth and small hoop.
What sort of fabric do I need for punch needle?
Monks cloth is the easiest fabric to work with for punch needle and we recommend beginners use monks cloth first, so you know how the needle should feel when you punch. In Australia, monks cloth can be tricky to find as it is not available in major craft retailers, however there are several small suppliers (such as us!) who import the cloth and sell by the metre. For more information, check out our blog article Foundation Cloths - just what does it have to do with monks?
Do you ship internationally?
Yes we can ship worldwide! Select international at the checkout and a set minimum postage price will automatically be added. We will then contact you to confirm the final postage price and different shipping options.
Help! I ran out of wool!
